March 8: A Before and After

This year, we wanted March 8, International Women’s Day, to mark a before and after in the history of Tórculos Ribes, and for that, we need your help.

If there’s one thing we’ve realized over the past few years, it’s how few historical female names have reached us, whether from the worlds of art, literature, science… And of course, in the world of printmaking as well. We’ve talked about Picasso, Rembrandt, Dürer, Tàpies, Goya, Warhol… But what about the women printmakers? That’s why we’ve decided that, starting this March 8, 2019, we will give a voice to all those women printmakers who have been silenced throughout history. From now on, on the 8th of each month, we will highlight a woman printmaker.

They can be contemporary as well, but we would like to review the history of each and every woman who lived for printmaking and did not have the platform that media or social networks give us today.

We want everyone to be able to participate in this initiative. You can leave your suggestions in the comments or share them through our Instagram profile (@torculosribes), in the highlighted stories “WPM” (women print-makers).

Remember: every woman printmaker is welcome, regardless of race, class, culture, religion, or sexual orientation.

Join us and participate! It’s time to name, learn about, and talk about the great women printmakers. And don’t hesitate to share this with anyone who can help or might be interested. Let’s make every month feel like March 8.
